Pictures, news and thoughts about Georgina Baker Jewellery April 15, 2009

I decided that there is always so much going on in my studio, new designs and information to do with my jewellery that I needed to write it all up for my customers. First, a little bit of history.

I began making jewellery in High School for friends to wear to the school ball, gradually girls from other schools started calling me up and ordering and I knew I had something going on. A friend of mine worked in Buana Satu on K’road and her boss wanted to stock these earrings, that was the beginning of the “Bead Era” when my parent’s living room floor was constantly covered in muffin tins filled with beads, and girlfriends were hired (but paid nothing but coffee!) to sit, chat and bead earrings.

After leaving school I decided to make a real go of it and enrolled in a Bachelor of Design degree at Unitec, specialising in Jewellery. Four years of sitting in a cell, yes a REAL cell as it had been the high risk patient part of the Carrington Mental Hospital, and I emerged a qualified jeweller.

My first collection was bought by Eon Design, the second by WORLD and it has been non stop since then!

I have developed my “Family Silver” collection for four years now and it is still so in demand that I may just play with spoons for the rest of my career. However, I am always developing new designs and I will keep you up to date with these as best I can!

Enjoy my thoughts x
